Thousands File Comments Opposing DOE 2012 LNG Export Study and Other LNG News

South Dunes Power Plant – Coos County Land Use Application

On December 28, 2012, Citizens Against LNG filed an appeal of the Coos County Planning Department’s approval of the South Dunes Power Plant Land Use Application – File SP-12-02.

On January 22, 2013, the Interim Coos County Planning Director reviewed a revised supplemental application narrative, which proposed a new condition of approval to settle the appeal without hearing through the reissuance of a revised, reconsidered decision imposing a new condition of approval agreed to by the appellant Citizens Against LNG.  The staff report can be found on line at - http://www.co.coos.or.us/Departments/Planning.aspx under pending applications

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY (DOE)  2012 LNG EXPORT STUDY UPATE

View ALL the submitted initial comments to the DOE on the recent NERA 2012 LNG Export Study here:

DOE sources state over 30,000 initial comments were received, most overwhelmingly pointing out flaws in the DOE’s NERA 2012 LNG Export Study.  See a listing with direct links to some of these comments below.

Due to the difficulties engendered by the effort to produce and transmit a large volume of submissions from a broad spectrum of the public participating in the DOE proceedings, on January 28, 2013, the DOE issued a Procedural Order that stated the following;  “A. All initial comments that were received in these proceedings as of 11:59 p.m., eastern time, on January 27, 2013, are accepted for filing. B. The motion of The Aluminum Association for an extension of time until 5 p.m., eastern time, on January 29, 2013, is granted.

If only we had more mayors like this that actually stand up for the public interest instead of just big money interest….
Town of Saint Andrews sends letter to FERC showing opposition to DownEast LNG terminal.

Unfortunately this is what we have.  Local public officials following the money instead… Obviously Mr. Craddock and Mr. Wetherell (below) did not read or review the full NERA Report.

Jordan Cove Energy Project’s attorneys obviously did read the NERA Report but forgot who the investors in JCEP are.  JCEP Comments to DOE.

Should the U. S. Allow Unfettered LNG Exports?
By Deborah Rogers, Energy Policy Forum, January 13, 2013

“U.S. News and World Report published an article entitled “Should the U.S. Export Natural Gas?” This article states that some leaders within the energy industry are questioning the benefits of exportation. They are apparently concerned about using up our resources to grow foreign economies.

U.S. News and World Report states: “Unrestricted natural gas exports could have “disastrous” effects on the U.S. economy, energy industry leaders argued Thursday, warning that shipping large amounts of the nation’s newly-abundant resource would result in crippling price hikes for American consumers and manufacturers.”…

$4M wind project off Coos Bay adopted
December 13, 2012
By Jessie Higgins

“COOS BAY — Deep-sea wind turbines could be operating off the coast of Coos Bay by 2017.

A Seattle-based company received a $4 million grant from the U.S. Energy Department on Wednesday to develop offshore wind turbines that would be installed 10-15 miles west of the bay…

…’Without (Jordan Cove), there is no Project Effectuate,” said Elise Hamner, spokeswoman for the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay. ‘It makes sense to launch the devices from Coos Bay. We’re a deep draft harbor and we’re in the perfect spot.”…”

[ NOTE: There are multiple off-shore wind projects across the globe and they do not require LNG Export terminals in order to operate.  Sorry Port of Coos Bay.]

Let’s see, ‘how many ways’ can Liquid Natural Gas export proponents, private corporate business and government interests, continue to obstruct substantial evidence brought against unsubstantiated claims made by corporate spokespersons, to abuse legislation.
Corporations who want to destroy private property; increase pollution; insist there will never be any contamination of clean water supplies; no loss of old timber stands; no loss of estuary species; ignores the increased danger to a an Interstate Highway and Municipal Airport; and insists there will be no increase in the price of natural gas, must be living in a different world than the people they are impacting. Using taxpayers money to derive corporate profits is an old story. Any local jobs will be filled by outsiders.
